A R15m maintenance dredging campaign by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA)'s Dredging Services division will see the restoration of the design depths inside Duncan dock at the Port of Cape Town.

New carrier Djibouti Shipping Lines (DSL) plans to launch a container shuttle service in April connecting Djibouti to Berbera (Somaliland), according to Alphaliner.
The new service will act as a feeder for cargoes destined to or originating from Berbera, which are transhipped to and from international long-haul services calling at Djibouti.
It will be operated with one chartered vessel of 1,000 teu, whose name has not yet been announced, Alphaliner said in its weekly report.

The government of Namibia has decided to operate rail company TransNamib on a commercial basis and is replacing its senior management.
TransNamib board of directors chairperson Paul Smit, said: “Running TransNamib unprofitably and contrary to well-established business principles cannot continue, and has to change. “Thus, the board has made special resolutions to implement its business plan with immediate effect, and appoint a new CEO as soon as possible.” Other new senior executives will also be appointed in the near future.

An electronic cargo tracking system has been introduced in East Africa to prevent theft and tampering, as well as speeding up freight transport times
The system has been adopted by the customs authorities of the East African Community (EAC) states at a cost of US$4.4M and so is presumably also motivated by a desire to maximise customs revenue.
